We were very much looking forward to visiting the Australian gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers during our stay in Hawke’s Bay but we were unfortunately about 2 1/2 weeks too late for them as they had already migrated to Australia. However, it was not long until we found an ever better alternative for the gannets with the lovely hills of Te Mata Peak which was just half an hour away. This is a photo I took during sunset on our first evening and I knew already that it would be even better at sunrise. However, this was a good start… 🙂
