The Snake’s head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris), which is also commonly known as Chess flower, prefers habitats further north and don’t grow somewhere near my home. I had admired this beautiful plant for a long time and so I was very happy when we were able to combine a business trip to Hamburg with a morning excursion to a field where these delicate flowers grow in large numbers. It was early in the season and many flowers were still closed but we nevertheless found two pleasing models. Many thanks again to Corinna Leonbacher for the nice company and for taking me to the location 😉
