Usually, we photographers are always chasing the good light: the golden, magnificent light that we are blessed with early in the morning or at the end of a day.
I hardly take any photos anymore during the day when the sun is shining but I do find rainy, foggy or stormy weather extremely beneficial for certain subjects. If it is colour, I very much like photographing in forests during rain or fog or at a coast during a storm.

When I was processing my pics from Norway, I found that many of the photos in dull light conditions work just perfectly in monochrome and I tossed all photos that I took in sunlight of the same locations – I found that even the soft low light does not work nor does it transport the mood of the landscape!
I’m glad that I found back to monochrome which I used to love in the good old darkroom days. But I still miss the atmosphere of a darkroom, the smell of the chemicals and the look and feel of a special, real paper.
Digital monochrome work is still not the same.

Hello, I’m Sandra – a passionate landscape photographer and solo globetrotter. In this blog I show my best landscape, nature and travel photos which have been taken during my travels around the world. I shared my passion for travel and photography with my late husband Gerd until 2018, whom I now take with me in my heart to every place I visit. Please also view my trip reports on my website Sandra Schänzer travelogues and photo galleries.
