It was our last day at the Lofoten Islands and we were still overwhelmed by the last night with gorgeous northern lights. Our day trip to Reine had been accompanied by heavy snow storms with complete white-outs on the road when we returned to Leknes.
When we came across the pass of Napp, I noticed a leak in the thick clouds and thought that it might be near Haukland or Uttakleiv and so we decided to turn left at the junction instead of heading to Leknes. It was a dead right decision as the leak was exactly over Uttakleiv and the warm setting sun bathed the mountains into warm light. There was another large group of photographers around, so it was not easy to compose but I’m quite happy with this photo that shows the strength of the weather as well as the tranquility of the light.
When we returned to Leknes, we were greeted by the snow storm again. But as we know by now, this had not been the end of the night – the snow storm passed and we experienced the most magical night with northern lights of our life.
